Lada VAZ-21061 in Traffic

Last winter (2015) I saw this craggy Lada VAZ-21061.

In city dirt camouflage, with curtains on the back window... God only knows what's going on inside... maybe even nothing unusual. But the brake lights are working.

This one is interesting because the badge here says Lada 1500s which tells a story to a Lada enthusiast like me.

It means it's not the Lada VAZ-2106 (aka Lada 1600) per se although outwardly it looks like one and it's not the Lada VAZ-2103 (aka Lada 1500) which looks different, especially in the rear lights department... but is in fact the Lada VAZ-21061 (Lada 1500s)!

And the Lada VAZ-21061 (Lada 1500s) is basically the Lada VAZ-2106 but with a motor from the Lada VAZ-2103. Amazing, isn't it? I found out all of this by researching the Lada 1500s on the Internet.

And here are some nice Lada promo pictures of yesteryear by Avto-VAZ (Lada maker) and probably by the now defunct Avtoexport (a worldwide exporter of Soviet cars).

First, the Lada VAZ-2103.

This interior is beautiful. Even if it is in bordello red.

A sports dash with a rev counter and a clock too. Both were a rarity on small European cars of the 1960-70s.

And now the Lada VAZ-2106 aka Lada 1600 aka The Six.

This one is a recent version. It was in production until 2006.

Below are historic pictures.

The famous Lada 2106 dash and interior.

And now the difference between the Lada 2103 and the Lada 2106 in front. Taillights were also different.
