Lada 1200s

Here is a Lada 1200s.

The Lada 1200s name was for foreign markets; domestically it was known as the Lada VAZ-21013.

For those confused by VAZ model designations I'll say that the pictured VAZ-21013 (Lada 1200s) is the upgraded model VAZ-21011 (Lada 1300) but retains the 1.2l (1200) engine from the first Lada VAZ-2101... get it?

Also, it has the correct VAZ-21011 (and 21013) bumpers, i.e. the rubber strip lengthwise and no bumper guards which is not the case with many other VAZ-21011 / 13s I have spotted so far.

LADA VAZ-21011

Here is a long-serving Lada VAZ-21011!

Seeing as production ended in 1983, this car can't be any younger than 36 years! And likely even much older too!!!

On the other hand, this could be a VAZ-21013 model, virtually indistinguishable from the 21011, in which case the production ended in 1998, but that still means over 30 years!

Lada at Zhiguli No. 4

This is about the fourth time I photograph that Lada (VAZ-21011 or -21013) parked in front of Restaurant Zhiguli (which is another, local, name for the Lada).

Three Classic Ladas

Here are three classic Ladas - versions of the very first model, VAZ-2101 - at Zhiguli Restaurant

Green, yellow and red - and they have already been mentioned on this blog at least a couple of times.

Red, yellow, green: three classic LADA cars

Three classic Lada parked at Restaurant Zhiguli, they are always parked there on account of the name which is the same as the Russian name for these cars.

The red and green ones were already seen on this blog and more than once, the yellow one is a new one.

As regards the exact designations, I think, all of them are likely VAZ-21011 or VAZ-21013 models rather than the VAZ-2101 but with some earlier parts - the yellow one is a 21011 or -13, the red is likely so too but with bumpers from an earlier VAZ-2101 model, the green Lada could be closer to a proper VAZ-2101 (bumpers with guards and no reverse light).

Pictorial reference and primer:

2101- bumpers with guards (Russian: "fangs"), no reverse light.

21011 or 21013 bumpers without guards with a rubber strip and a reverse light under the right rear light cluster.

Beautiful dash

2101 again
 21011 or 21013

Lada Racer Crashed

Here is a crashed classic Lada racer.

Seen locally (to me) in the first snows of this (2016) fall.

This No. 74 hit something pretty hard but not hard enough to cause injuries (I hope), the windshield is intact or maybe it was hit while stationary. In any case it is now well and truly crashed.

As to the model, I think it's either a VAZ-21011 or VAZ-21013 - both are versions of the first Lada model - the Lada VAZ-2101 and look pretty similar.

Lada 1200s - VAZ 21013

Here is a Lada VAZ-21013 aka Lada 1200s sighted in April 2016 at VDNKh here in Moscow.

For those confused by VAZ model designations I'll say that the pictured VAZ-21013 (Lada 1200s) is the upgraded model VAZ-21011 (Lada 1300) but retains the 1.2l engine from the first Lada VAZ-2101... get it?

The owner hopes to restore it to its former glory... and is counting (on) your donations.

Crucially it has the correct VAZ-21011 (and 21013) bumpers, i.e. the rubber strip lengthwise and no bumper guards which is not the case in other VAZ-21011 / 13s I have spotted so far.

Lada VAZ-21011 x 2

On Friday March 25, 2016, I went to have lunch at the same restaurant I visited when I saw these two early Ladas so had an opportunity to check up on them.

They are still there two years after.

At the time I identified them as two Lada VAZ-2101 but this time I am inclined to believe that they are actually VAZ-21011s - a version of the VAZ-2101 that remained in production until 1983 and is also known as the Lada 1300 on foreign markets.

Although certain things are not right for the 21011 either, especially the bumpers which are not the VAZ-21011 bumpers. In fact, the bumpers do look like 2101 but not the rest of the cars.

But on balance there is more of the VAZ-21011 in them than from any other related model and there was also the VAZ-21013 aka Lada 1200s in addition to the base VAZ-2101.

The red car also has newer side rear view mirrors. Also, the red car has no quarter glass window, but it probably should. In all, the red one looks more bastardized than the green one which is purer although not perfect either.

Nice low-back seats, you fold them out and get an even sleeping place, something you can't do any more with modern cars on account of head rests and other stuff.

The taillights are not consistent with the 21011 either. In fact they do look like they came from a VAZ-2101 as does the bumper but it has a reverse light which the 2101 did not have.

The quarter glass aka vent window is where it should properly be on this green one.
