Vostok Rocket

The Vostok Rocket at VDNKh in northern Moscow seen on an overcast grey September day earlier this year (2015).

Derived from the Soviet R-7 Semyorka ICBM, Vostok rockets launched both the first artificial satellite ("sputnik") and the first manned spacecraft in human history on the Vostok Spacecraft.

Here it looks as if it's levitating.

Vostok Spacecraft

More Vostok rocket photography.

These photos were made at Moscow's VDNKh facility in August 2014 on a sunny and warm day with some nice clouds.

The Vostok spacecraft is based on the R-7 ICBM family and was used to launch a number of sputniks (as in satellites) into space as well the first ever manned space expedition by Yuri Gagarin.

This is supposed to be a functional double of the real thing, not a mock-up as I thought earlier.

Yak-42 and Mi-8

A couple of vehicles of a (slightly) different kind - a Yak-42 and a Mi-8 installations seen during one of my recent trips to VDNKh, I think, it was on August 1, 2015.

First the Yak-42 behind which is the Vostok spaceship.

The very same on which Yuri Gagarin went to space (except it's likely a mock-up).

Built during 1980-2003 the Yak-42 is a 100/120-seat three-engined mid-range passenger jet. It was designed as a mid-range passenger jet. It is powered by modern high-bypass turbofan engines

Bonus.

Someone wearing a Velociraptor suit.

The Mil Mi-8.

The Mil Mi-8 is a Soviet-designed medium twin-turbine transport helicopter. There are also armed gunship versions. The Mi-8 is among the world's most-produced helicopters, used by over 50 countries

Both of them together.

Su-27

A vehicle of a (slightly) different kind - a Sukhoi Su-27 installation seen during one of my recent trips to VDNKh, I think, it was on August 1, 2015.

Behind it is the Vostok spaceship.
The very same on which Yuri Gagarin went to space (except it's likely a mock-up).

As wikipedia has it, the Sukhoi Su-27 (NATO reporting name: Flanker) is a twin-enginesupermaneuverablefighter aircraft designed by Sukhoi. It was intended as a direct competitor for the large United States fourth-generation fighters such as the F-14 Tomcat and F-15 Eagle, with 3,530-kilometre (1,910 nmi) range, heavy aircraft ordnance, sophisticated avionics and high manoeuvrability. The Su-27 most often flies air supremacy missions, but its most modern variants are able to perform almost all aerial warfare operations. Complementing the smaller MiG-29, the Su-27 has its closest US counterpart in the F-15 Eagle.

Su-27 hull number 27.

So who wants this tasty cigar?

Buran USSR Space Shuttle

Not a car but a vehicle of sorts too - a re-entry vehicle and I spotted it - saw Buran the USSR space shuttle last winter at the VDNKh, a well known facility in north Moscow.

Here it is.

I suspect it's a replica, or a mock-up (some parts maybe genuine though).

Buran landing gear.

Nose section up close.

Under the belly.

Tail section.

Vostok spaceship....also a mock-up, probably.
