Lada Niva At 45

 Not a spotting post because an important date is upon us.

April 5, 2022 marks 45 years since the start of production of the VAZ-2121 Niva SUV, the first ever SUV in the world, which is now known as LADA NIVA Legend. 

Since then almost 2.5 million cars have been manufactured, of which 700,000 were exported to more than 100 countries.

And here are promo pictures of the Lada Niva from the yesteryear.

This is the current version, Lada Niva Legend, I believe.

Lada Samara

 Here is a Lada VAZ-2108 aka Lada Samara in the snows of Moscow in the month of January 2022.

In production until 1997, the car cannot be any younger than 25 years old but is in excellent condition and sporting an after-market body work, could even be somebody's restoration project.

Amazingly this is only the number 3 Lada VAZ-2108 on the blog.

Tank Spotting: Reportage Photography: T-34 Tank Museum

Yes, this is a vehicle spotter blog but tanks are also vehicles, of course, and the T-34 has already been featured, so anyway - from one of my other blogs - here is a story in photos (reportage photography) of a visit to the T-34 Tank Museum somewhere north of Moscow.

These first photos are from the viewing area in front of the museum building.

Here is a Vostok Komandirskie tank watch and the very tank pictured on the dial which is a T-60.

Tank for the inquiring minds - you can walk and climb on it - but cannot get inside.

The Tsar Tank.

The Tsar Tank was maybe the world's largest tank built by Russia in the first World War, and this is a full-size replica.

I don't think it was ever fielded though.

It was supposed to carry lots of machine guns.
